Just think about it; no more waking up tired, no more headaches, and no more angry partners.

There are ways to prevent snoring, but it requires getting into a proper routine and discipline. Once you are able to get into a routine that helps to prevent your snoring, you will need self discipline to keep you in that routine.

I can help you with a proper routine, but not the discipline part.

You need to work that out for yourself, and decide what is most important to you; do you want to stop snoring or at least snore less, or do you prefer to eat that juicy burger as you down that beer 30 minutes before going/collapsing to sleep.

Snoring Prevention Tips

There are many ways to prevent snoring, which are highlighted below:

  • Eat right: Eat a healthy diet. Foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, some dairy products, berries, eggs, grains, and many others are good for you and should be eaten. Use extreme moderation with greasy oily foods, like most fast foods, especially 2 hours before bedtime, they will keep you awake and when you do sleep you will likely snore.
  • Weight control: Get in a regular exercise routine, maybe set out 30 minutes before you go to work or when you get home. If you are overweight, you can lose some of the excess weight that causes your snoring, and can therefore prevent snoring from happening in the first place.
  • Alcohol: Minimize your alcohol intake especially 2Beer hours before bedtime. Alcohol is known to cause snoring, so be disciplined about it and; don’t drink and sleep!
  • Medicine: If you are on prescription medicine, take them just after dinner/supper, and don’t wait till you are about to go to sleep. If you have to drink sleeping tablets, use it moderately. If you are on prescription sleeping tablets, try to work towards finding a natural way to cure your sleeping problems.
  • Smoking: Smoking is known to cause snoring, If you smoke and can’t or don’t want to stop, just make sure you stop smoking 2 hours before going to bed.
  • Sleep hygiene: Get in a sleep routine and it could reduce your snoring. Go to bed at the same time every night, and wake up at the same time every day. Make your room ‘fit for sleep’; cut out noises, make it dark, no TV etc. Once all this are in place your body will start to ‘tell’ you when it is time for bed.
  • Sleep position: Get in the habit of sleeping on your side; it can make all the difference to your snoring. Place a firm pillow behind your back, or tie a tennis ball to the back of your pajamas or pants to prevent you from turning back onto your back.
  • Bed height: You can try and add some height to the top of your bed, and thereby lifting your head. Sleeping at an elevation may reduce the chances of your airways collapsing. If you don’t want to put bricks under the legs of your bed there are alternatives; there are specially designed anti snoring pillows that many people swear by, and is an option that you can decide on.
  • Close your mouth: If you tend to breathe through your mouth, more than your noise, you are likely to snore more. Try to keep your mouth closed. If you are unable to find a way to do it naturally, there are very good jaw supporters or chin straps on the market that are sure to keep your mouth closed.
  • Blockages: Meaning nose blockage. If you feel stuffedBlowing Nose up because of sickness or allergies, get some nasal spray that can help you. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist for help on this. For a blocked nose I personally use Drixine or Iliadin. There are also some other great natural remedies on the market, which can help. There are also some great Nasal Strips and Nasal Clips on the market that are sure to help you. Check out the Airmax Nasal Clip for a great option.
  • Physical problems: Your nose could be chronically blocked because of physical problems, such as; a deviated septum, nasal polyps, large tonsils, adenoids, and a thin airway. Nose clips and nose strips could help, even if it is just a short term relieve. A permanent relieve that you could consider is surgery, which has been proven to stop snoring; of course surgery is not best for everyone.
  • Anti Snoring devices: Other ways to prevent snoring is with an anti snoring device such as a stop snoring mouthpiece, chin strap, nose strip and nose clip. Check out my reviews of my number one choice MAD and TRD type mouthpieces.

It would be great if you can instill some or most of these things in your mind. You can for example, get in the habit of having your last drink at 8pm, and there are many other measures you can take.

Many people have found great benefit in making some lifestyle changes, and so can you.

If you can get in a sleeping routine, it can make a huge difference; try it you may just be surprised.

The mouthpieces I recommend are both great at preventing snoring, and either one will be a great choice.

All the measures I mentioned above are an easy way to prevent snoring. The surgery part I mentioned is merely stated as information, because most snoring sufferers do not need to take that route.

Remember, if your snoring is severe you should see a doctor; I always say, don’t take chances with your health.
